Read-a-Card software: reader-based SAM license
Read-a-Card software: reader-based SAM license
ID Discovery Solution
Read-a-Card is a software utility that runs on a Windows PC and reads information from many types of contactless cards and tags. For instance, various types of card numbers and unique IDs can be read and logged to file, or automatically sent to other software applications using various methods (including 'typing' the card ID, sometimes known as a 'keyboard wedge').
Using Read-a-Card, systems that currently rely on barcode scanners can be migrated easily to contactless RFID technology, and door access systems can be extended to enable card numbers to be read into different applications and databases. With the correct reader hardware, Read-a-Card can read most HID Prox and iClass card numbers in standard Weigand format, as well as Mifare card serial numbers.
Read-a-Card is compatible with a wide range of readers from different manufacturers, and can also be used to identify cards, test reader functionality and to manage the use of multiple readers on a single PC.
Depending on the reader used, Read-a-Card can:- View a contactless smartcard's unique ID and automatically insert it into text input fields
- Insert a custom prefix and suffix when performing RFID 'keyboard wedge' functions
- Read and display Mifare card serial numbers (CSN) in hex and decimal and reverse decimal formats
- Read HID iClass & Prox card IDs, with appropriate readers
- Read Mifare sectors and other data using custom format SAM
- Support multiple readers with the ability to detect and log unique reader IDs
- Automatically log card IDs to file, with time stamp and reader ID
- De-duplicate repeated card reads
- Automatically launch software applications and/or custom URLs on each card read
Additional developer features include:
- Full integration with other software using Windows messaging API
- Read-a-Card web server
- Plug-in capabilities to add any further functionality
From version 3.0 onwards, Read-a-Card provides the ability to decode customer-specific card numbering formats stored on either Mifare or iClass cards, through the use of software plug-ins and hardware security modules (SAMs) for holding keys and other sensitive data. Using this mechanism, any licensed copy of Read-a-Card can be enhanced to be able to read a site-specific format and return the relevant card ID data to other applications using its built-in keyboard wedge, file logging or direct integration APIs, without exposing the encoding scheme security data.
Read-a-Card runs on a Windows PC and reads card ID information from ISO14443 A/B and ISO15693 contactless cards and tags using any PC/SC V2.0 contactless reader plus a number of other supported devices. Note – this reader-based Read-a-Card license is most suitable if you plan to move your reader from one PC to another. The reader must have a built-in PC/SC-compliant SAM slot, which is permanently fitted with the supplied license SAM. The software can be installed on any number of PCs (and will work with any number of readers) but requires the reader containing the SAM to be connected while Read-a-Card is in use.
